Nevermind the Creator's design for humankind
Student protests have become routine, such that nobody takes them seriously anymore. So now, the adults are getting involved — as they did with last April’s walkouts for gun control — approving and supporting their charges’ acts of “defiance” — which really don’t defy anything if everybody is on board with it.
That’s what happened at the evangelical Azusa Pacific University, which recently loosed then reinstated its ban on same-sex relationships. Unlike college protests of years past, at Azusa Pacific faculty members joined the students in decrying a Christian university administration’s attempt to adhere to the standard Christian teaching on traditional marriage.
Azusa Pacific’s student Code of Conduct states: “Students may not engage in a romanticized same-sex relationship.” Why not? Because, the code of conduct explains, “We affirm God’s perfect will and design for humankind with the biblical understanding of the marriage covenant as between one man and one woman.”
Ah, but academics and their minions, whose minds they are charged with shaping (or controlling, if you prefer), have different “understandings of marriage” based on a different “will and design for humankind.” And now students and teachers alike are united in purpose — against any force that contradicts their different design and understanding, even if that force is the one that employs them or facilitates their education.
“This isn’t something sinful, God,” one student protestor said. “This is something beautiful. I pray that we continue to live out the mission of being difference-makers, God, that this world be a place of equality, God.” God, you’re wrong, and so is your Bible. You don’t understand beauty.
Such lies know no bounds. Here we’re talking about a private Christian college, but we could very well be talking about a secular state university or your garden-variety Catholic college. There seem to be fewer and fewer distinctions between them anymore.
