Adam’s Second Day (waiting for Eve)
A POEM
For him, tomorrow is another world.
But still he’d like to bring a god to earth…
Or someone…someone not to be alone.
To be alone, like God, is never good.
Around the Adam’s feet a devil curled
And bound him to a tree, its fruit not worth
The price of sin as yet, its juice unknown
To Adam, even though he knew he could.
Around his heart a robe of skin was furled,
An opening to ease the touch of birth.
When it would come. The flaw was not disowned,
But welcomed, in the shade of knowledge-wood.
The one who sees his ribs as but a cage
Will free the Adam when she comes of age.
