Naked Sophistication

The Pundits, a secret society on the campus of Yale University, initiated “naked parties” — which students profess to be non-sexual in nature — in the mid-1990s, open only to a select few. But naked partying is now a mainstream fixture among liberal students being primed to become the nation’s elite. Megan Crandell, a Yale senior who has attended six naked parties, explained: “The dynamic is completely different from a clothed party. People are so conscious of how they’re coming across that conversations end up being more sophisticated” (The Scotsman, Jan. 8, 2007).

Choking Hazard?

Samantha Devine, a 13-year-old Catholic schoolgirl at Robert Napier School in Gillingham, England, was forbidden to wear her crucifix necklace under pain of expulsion. Deputy head teacher Paul Jackson defended the school’s stance: “The student, and parent, were informed that the wearing of the chain was a health and safety hazard” (Daily Mail, Jan. 12, 2007).

Breeding Out Homosexuality

Scientists at Oregon State University are conducting experiments to change the sexuality of “gay” sheep — those that have no interest in mating. The technique adjusts the hormonal balance in the brains of rams so that they are more inclined to mate with ewes. “Gay” activists, however, fear the program could pave the way for “breeding out homosexuality” in humans. Martina Navratilova, the lesbian tennis player who won Wimbledon nine times, has called for the project to be abandoned: “How can it be that in the year 2006 a major university would host such homophobic and cruel experiments?” (The Sunday Times of London, Dec. 31, 2006).

Young Love

Samuel Akinbode Sadela, Nigeria’s oldest preacher at the age of 107, said he derived his strength from God after marrying a 30-year-old woman. “The Lord is my strength. I am very strong and energetic,” he pronounced after his recent wedding in Lagos. Sadela, founder of Gospel Apostolic Church, has been in the pulpit for 75 years. The marriage with Christiana Sadela is “a fulfillment of the scripture…,” read a media statement from his congregation: “Nothing is impossible with God” (Agence France-Presse, Jan. 8, 2007).
